Continuous monitoring systems are used to monitor readings of different sensors on machines, and provide relevant signals to the PLC to protect the machine. Continuous monitoring systems play an important part in protecting expensive assets, and extending their functional life.
Nine Dot Solutions has developed and installed strain gauge-based continuous monitoring systems. These systems log strain readings from different areas on the machine, which are compared to pre-determined strain levels, from the structural audit results. The system provides “trip signals” to the PLC which is used to halt operation if it has been detected that the machine is operating in a dangerous fashion.
The measured strains are also logged for future analysis. Detailed analysis of the data reveals typical operating trends, and possible machine deterioration. This could aid the client with effective maintenance and replacement planning.
